When did you learn the "Truth"?
« on: November 14, 2010, 09:37:26 am »
I'm just wondering when you found out that Santa Clause was not real? I didn't want to post this in december because it seemed like the most anti-nostalgia thread I could possibly make. I personally was about 10.

... I was a slow learner.

As far as I know I never believed it. My parents would say that we were leaving out a scotch and mince-pie for Father Christmas, but I always just thought of him in the same way as I thought of Jesus. Someone who was "there" but more just like a spiritual embodiment of Christmas. This is of course me looking back on it now, I obviously wasn't an 8 year old sat around pondering the existensial existance of a rotund Christmassy man.

But I always knew that it was my parents drinking the scotch and eating the mince pies.

I don't think I ever did. The same for everything else parents have made up: The Easter bunny, the tooth fairy etc. etc.

But I remember that as a kid I wanted to believe...But I just didn't. I think this is about age 6 though, because I probably believed in it as a very young child  - I don't count that as believing because I can't remember, so I actually don't know.

Well, it's always been a tradition at my house to open presents at night, so never.  There's also no chimneys here, so that also helped.

Never.

Ideally it would have been the magic Bolshevik riding upon the flying peoples' bear, who equally distributes utilitarian gifts and food amongst the worlds youth, but alas nobody thought to put this idea into my impressionable young mind, lol.

it never made sense to me that all the adults didnt believe. if he was real and he did sneak into my house every year and leave presents, they would know. but every christmas movie ever has the part where an adult is like "it would be great if he were real" or "stop it! there' no such thing as santa clause!" so i never really believed.

i have been robbed of my childhood. *rolls eyes*
hey look.

i'm not here.

I haven't yet. :-)

And I like it that way.

Sure, maybe there isn't a big fat guy doling out millions of presents in one night. But there is a huge, HUGE group of people who will do it for him. Santa isn't a person, IMO. Santa is a way of thinking.

So yes. I still believe in Santa, and I'm proud of it.

I was told in the second grade (8 years old) but I knew around kindergarten (6 years old).

I was a very skeptical child.
