I honestly can't remember. I think it was just something I picked up on when I was fairly young. After that Christmas was more about the food and music that anything else really.
Oh and family. Because family is important and all.

Around fifth grade- I think I was ten at the time- I just kind of figured it out. I was reading Calvin and Hobbes like it was the Bible at the time, and even though I didn't get most of the jokes, a few comics alluded to Santa not being real and it lead to a suspicion. Although I wasn't too bright back then, so even some of the obvious clues went pretty unnoticed.

And then later that month, I lost a tooth, and I happened to be awake when the rather mannish, 250-pound "fairy" who looked and sounded an awful lot like my father up the stairs and into my room. I was pretending to be asleep, so he made the switch without knowing I was awake. The truth about everything else just kind of flowed from there.

Although, to be honest, I didn't admit I had stopped believing because all the "cool" kids in my school said they still believed (ironically, of course), and I was so desperate for attention I made a big show about how I still believed too. I think someone made a "Santa isn't real joke" later in seventh grade and I stopped what I was doing, stared right at them, and said "He's NOT!?" Let's just say a lot of people didn't know I was kidding...
And that's why they call me Duino Duck- Drake of Daring, Mandarin of Magnificence, Water Fowl of West Seattle!

I don't remember when it was, but my parents accidentally put their names instead of Santa's.

FAIL

I don't think I ever really believed it, since by the time I understood the whole 'fat man on the roof' thing, I questioned how that would work, leaving enough doubt in my mind that I couldn't believe it.

It also doesn't help when 'Santa' pulls an all-nighter, and screws up the names on presents.

Yeah same here. I remember my parents saying to me that I wasn't allowed downstairs during the night! I had to go to bed early too, which was obviously them getting rid of me so they could wrap and place the presents. As well as eat the Mince Pie and carrots, left for Santa and his Reindeer. I knew it was them because what kind of kid can get to sleep on Christmas eve? I just heard them whispering and clanking up the loft ladder to bring down my presents. I also recall not being allowed into the loft around Christmas and Birthdays.

I call him Father Christmas and Santa! And of course, Saint Nicholas.

My sister told me when I was 11, I kind of said, oh okay and lived with it

I call him Father Christmas! Though I guess santa slips in there sometimes.

I think I kinda came to the gradual understanding that he wasn't real, but didn't accept it until just after the Christmas when I was 16.  I always liked the tradition of leaving some milk and a mince pie, and a carrot for the reindeer, and moving the fireplace guard, and putting stockings up with the Christmas lists, and waking my parents up at exactly 7:00 and going down to see what we've got in our stockings...  :fox-:):  I think we'll still do the last bit, but I'm not sure about the stockings :fox-:P:

Up until sometime in the later years of grade school, I was an avid believer in Santa. He had to be real! How else could presents magically appear under the Christmas tree?!
Eventually, though, school friends would start yelling "SANTA ISN'T REAL" at me whenever I started talking about Christmas, and I got the hint.

Some time in grade school. Not really sure on the exact age.

It came to me when I was waiting for my parents to wake up (you know, you practically storm their room at 5 in the morning) and noticed "wait, why dies Santa use the same wrapping paper as we have in the basement, and the same tags, and... The same type of pen?"

I haven't yet. :-)

And I like it that way.

Sure, maybe there isn't a big fat guy doling out millions of presents in one night. But there is a huge, HUGE group of people who will do it for him. Santa isn't a person, IMO. Santa is a way of thinking.

So yes. I still believe in Santa, and I'm proud of it.

I figured it out when i was eight, it was probably a mix of kids at school telling me he wasn't real and the fact that i saw gifts popping up around the house (clearly purshased by my parents) showing up from Santa claus when i got them under the tree.

I never had the heart to tell my parents until i was 12 though........

It is kind of a buzzkill but its fun when you get to play santa for little kids! Brings some of the old magic back.

The first year I could competently understand things. Age 5 I believe. My sister was 10.

Probably some time in the beginning of elementary school. No one ever told me Santa wasn't real, or any other things like the Easter Bunny, I think I just kinda of started to realize how unrealistic the ideas were as I got older.
Funny thing is, I learned that the tooth fairy wasn't real because one night when I lost a tooth, I stayed awake but pretended to be asleep to try and catch her.
The only person I saw was my dad.

I was always kind of skeptical. Once I was old enough, logically, I had come to the conclusion that it was probably a giant conspiracy, but I still wanted to believe! It took until I was 11 and I read a newspaper article that off-handedly gave it all away before I gave up...
