Does your Fursona have a backstory?
« on: November 27, 2010, 06:04:26 pm »
The title says it all really.

Some Furs have a backstory to their Fursona, are you one of them? Is your Fursona just a carbon copy of your personality and backstory but with animalistic traits, or does your Fursonas story play out differently? What is he/she, an experiment gone wrong? The next evolutionary step? Is he/she from a place where anthro's come naturally?

I'll post mine later, compiling it into an epic story

Seth is just me. His backstory is my backstory.

As for my alt that I'm working on, he has a huge backstory. But I haven't finished his design or even his name yet. >_<

Before I knew about the fandom, Frostblind was a human. His country was invade by the US and he joined a small militia unit. He used the snow to fight the US and was given the name Frostblind.  When I learned about the Furry fandom, Frostblind became a gray wolf.  *howl*

Mine escaped from an insect communist society - he couldn't stand the complete destruction of civil liberties, so he escaped to live in the 'big wide world'

Infinite has a long backstory from going from a poor Man-at-arms in the first crusade, to inheriting a great fortune from a lord and becoming a world wide explorer.

Not to be rude or anything, I just think this is slightly ridiculous. I don't get why you would need a background to your character. It just feels like it covers up your true self, which your 'sona should be doing. Conveying yourself as a different species that relates to you.

As Seth said, the backstory is yourself.

When I improvised mine, I imagined what conveys my character most accurately, and immediately thought of my neighbor's husky - reckless, hyper, friendly, etc. Then I thougt: "first thought- best thought", and ruched in; When I have the time, I'll make it an escaped laboratory experiment, definitely.

Well, this isn't the case for everyone.  While some furs use a fursona to represent themselves exactly, others prefer to have a "main character", like from an RP or a story.  Other furs have multiple characters, all with complex backstories, without favouring one over the others, aside from picking one to use for website avatars.  Just because your fursona mirrors your real life, doesn't mean everyone's has to.
I'm not very creative when it comes to actual characters (like, name, form, and behavior), so I tend to do all of them.
Aerion's my main character, of course, but it's also the default one to use on forums, and the name itself was explicitly thought off one time when I got tired of making new names for all characters, especially in single-player games that don't have the "the name's been used" restriction, and wanted one to use on everything.
But, not only do I sometimes have a different character, Aerion himself is a pretty varied, having a different backstory for every place I use him that requires one.
Heck, I COULDN'T use the same backstory for, say, both serious forum RPs and IMVU's IM-RPs, as IMVU's average "power level" is much higher, most people there being too impatient to develop their characters and therefore making the equalent of "20th-level characters" right away, sometimes even going beyond that, whereas forum RPs often expect me to be about the equalent of 5th-level.

So, yes, he has a backstory, he has MANY backstories x3
"Life's journey is not about arriving at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy Shit, what a ride""
"Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means you are two steps ahead"
"Invoke not common sense, for it is not common"
"A life without joy is a wasted one, and you got but one to waste."
"To touch the clouds, you need to reach for the stars"

It's almost the exact same as my own, except he lives in cottage-village (which is inhabited with all of the cervine species in Britain and some Red Foxes) next to a beautiful forrest in the countryside and enjoys sparring, grazing and appreciating the beauty of nature. So it's essentially my life without me living in a chav infested city and I have more hobbies.

Setta is essentially a less scatter-brained version of myself. If there was a backstory, it would be on how I became a Furry!

I do have a wolf character--Aktif--who is very important to me. If I made her anthro, she could be another Fursona, and one that would have a backstory. Aktif left her pack to join a group of animals living in an abandoned nuclear power plant where they became radioactive over time, so all of her scars from fights in the old pack glow green and yellow. She would be a neat fursona, but I'd rather work on purrfecting Setta before I make any others.

Yes, and it's all technically still a work in progress.

Hmmm nah not really, well Nagi doesn't as she pretty much me in every way and has my life only thing different is I wanted to feel cool and made something happen to where she turned into a gooey shapshifter what happen exactly keeps changing(cause I secretly wish that could happen for real, not exactly become gooey though o~o) idk why but it feels weird to me to make her born as something other than human ^^''

Lorii on the other hand has a bit of backstory, not complete or set in stone. What I have in mind is kinda dumb so I wanna keep it to myself for now till it makes sense or something XD

Technically, yes (and this includes adopts)-However I'm still developing everything

But what I'm currently working on is a recent adopt, who's a Long-Earred Jerboa. They live as a cursed djinn who attempted to steal the sun.

And of course, don't forget my new bat sona. While he still doesn't have a name, he's a insect psychiatrist who lives in a religious society where his species believes in the destruction and abuse of the forest's natural system. Often bullied and rejected by his own kind due his beliefs, he tries to commit to animal equality while trying to escape from his romantic fantasies.

I'm really excited about the bat sona-Because I love character development, but all my other adopts and sonas are going through a little hiatus during the break
