Chrome Plugins; What do YOU use?
« on: December 24, 2010, 06:02:53 am »
Assuming that anyone here uses chrome, what are some useful plugins that you wouldn't do without?
Personally, Web of Trust is my most used plugin; it displays a site's trustworthiness and several different aspects regarding web safety.
So what I want to know is what all do you have installed on your browser? And preferably no "I don't use chrome" remarks  :hale:

Idk if this really counts but I guess because I've used it for somewhat important things, it counts... I like the facebook app that can be found here

And one that I just cannot live without is this.
Its an extension that shows your unread gmail messages. I would not live without this app.

I also use the panic button sometimes, but only at school when I'm on some website that is never bad enough to rationally block it, but is blocked anyway under the reason "Other". It basically hides all your tabs and opens the ones you want.

StumbleUpon is an essential resource for finding cool crap or getting rid of boredom. ;3 that's really it, though...

WOT, Ad Block, G-mail Button, Deviant Art Muro (Although I don't use it)...
And that's about it.

I've been a fan of Chrome forever; it's superior both for every-day browsing and for web development! I'm currently using version 10.0.612.3 dev.

I recommend it. It's fast, simple, customizable, and doesn't get cluttered with apps when you install them. You just type into the URL bar if you want to search something instead of a search bar and add-ons are about the same size as your back button.

How about Google Translate? Not the website, but the app. I couldn't live without it.

I use this c:

Ad Block, Tumblr Savior, Skype Click-to-Call (though that doesn't get much use)
I also installed Angry Birds of course, ehehe

I love chrome, but I do not really have add-on's.. well, none that I intended to hate. any good ones out there?

OMG YES Skype Click To Call is the bane of my GC, always freezing my Chrome just because it crashed. Also sometimes Shockwave Flash crashes on mine too.

This would work better as a general browser plugins thread, instead of for a specific one, because lots of people use different browsers.  Here's mine.

Opera (Primary Browser)
I don't use many add-ons for my main browser, and 95% of my ad-blocking is accomplished with the HOSTS file or with the browser's content blocker (Opera has an awesome one, I recommend it).  But, I do use NotScripts, a Javascript blocker, to protect my privacy.  I also have a Facebook widget blocker, since traditional methods don't block Facebook "Like" buttons effectively.

Interestingly, most of the things I need plugins for in Firefox (or Chrome, if I used it) are built-in features of Opera :-)

Firefox (Development Browser)
Firefox is what I do most of my heavy-duty testing in for work, so I have a lot of plugins for it.

Status-4-Ever:  Adds an old-style status bar to the new Firefox versions, because it's really helpful to have, and I don't like being without it.

Web Developer Toolbar:  Adds a HUGE amount of helpful tools for working with CSS, Javascript, and overall site analysis, plus some useful tools like a pixel ruler and code validators.

NoScript:  Script blocker, useful for privacy reasons, and also for testing how a site works without JS easily.

Firebug:  Advanced javascript and CSS diagnostics, plus a framework for other tools.

PageSpeed:  Firebug plugin, reports page loading efficiency in a variety of areas.  For example, it'll tell me how many images are on a page, how fast the server responded to the request, and it automatically diagnoses cache problems.  Lots of fun, if not always the most useful thing.

Live HTTP Headers:  Server diagnostic tool, displays the low-level communication and commands sent between browser and server.  Helpful for Javascript-heavy sites, and for blocking ads embedded in video systems like Blip and Hulu >.>

WML Browser:  Changes browser identification to that of a non-smartphone, to test low-level mobile sites without actually needing a cellphone or a separate application.
